“All Eyes on Rafah”: The Troubling Reasons Behind This Trending Slogan On Social Media (2024)

“All Eyes on Rafah” campaign: World’s attention on the war in Gaza. The “All Eyes on Rafah” campaign is spreading rapidly on social media after the Israel army’s attack in Gaza. People are sharing photos and messages on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter condemning the attack on the refugee camp in Rafah. Celebrities from around the world, including Bollywood, Hollywood, and sports stars, have also extended their support to the campaign.

The campaign was started by activists and human rights organizations who wanted to spread awareness about the war in countries like Europe, Australia and India. Common people are also joining the campaign, sharing posts on social media, and showing solidarity with the people of Gaza. The campaign aims to get the international community to put pressure on Israel and enforce a ceasefire in Gaza.

“All Eyes on Rafah” The slogan was first used in February by World Health Organization (WHO) director Rick Peppercorn. His comments came after Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced plans to evacuate the city. He asked the international community to pay attention to the events taking place in Gaza.

“All Eyes on Rafah” The purpose of this slogan is to appeal to people around the world not to divert their attention from the events happening in Palestine. Around 14 lakh Gaza residents who fled in fear of fierce fighting are currently taking refuge in Rafah and despite such a large population, Israel is attacking there. This slogan has been used in Palestine support demonstrations for the last several days. But after the death of 40 Palestinians and dozens injured in Israel’s latest air strikes in Rafah, the slogan ‘All eyes on Rafah’ is spreading rapidly on social media.

Bollywood stars came forward

The painful pictures that emerged after the attacks on relief camps in Rafah have shaken the whole world. After this attack, many Indian celebrities like Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Rashmika Mandanna, Sonakshi Sinha, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Tripathi Dimri, Dia Mirza and Richa Chadha have reacted on their respective Instagram profiles.

Alia Bhatt shared a post from the Instagram page ‘The Motherhood Home’ and wrote #AllEyesOnRafah on her story. The post explains how all children deserve ‘love, security, peace and life’.

Sports World & Politicians Also Posted A Status

Many celebrities like Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma’s wife Ritika Sajdeh, Irfan Pathan, and Congress leader Imran Pratapgarhi have also shown solidarity with the Palestinians by sharing this story. According to media reports, Ritika also faced trolling, after which she deleted her story.

Israel’s Prime Minister Admitted His Mistake

“All Eyes on Rafah” After the attack killed more than 40 people, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted a tragic mistake had been made. Addressing the Israeli parliament on Monday, Netanyahu said, “Despite our efforts not to harm innocent civilians, a tragic accident occurred last night. We are investigating the incident.”

1 million Palestinians In Rafah Tent City

About 1 million Palestinians have taken refuge in the city of Rafah. Tents have been set up for them to live in. On May 24, the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to stop its military operation in Rafah. The court also said that the borders with Egypt should be opened for humanitarian aid. Despite this, Israel started ground action on Rafah. The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) said that their weapons alone cannot carry out a lethal attack. Also, they targeted and killed two senior Hamas terrorists in the attack.

“All Eyes on Rafah” A statement by a Gaza journalist is going viral on social media, in which he told how he saw a child going to save his mother in a tent in Rafah. The child was very brave and went inside for his mother. When the fire was extinguished and they were found, the child and his mother were found burnt to death, clinging to each other.

This is just one anecdote, but there are many incidents in Gaza that are not coming to light. On May 6, a report was published by the United Nations, which said that there were 34,735 deaths in Gaza and 1,120 in Israel, but two days later the figure rose to 34,844. Reports are regularly published by OCHA (United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs), giving figures. However, the actual figure could be much higher. About 70 thousand people have lost their homes and more than 10 thousand people are missing. Gaza also lacks hospitals, schools, colleges, and clean water.
